Bella looked at out the window of the plane as it was flying over the clouded skies, gripping her seat a little tighter she moved to look back at the book in her lap.

God how she hated flying, it always made her feel so weird and as if she was sea sick, only she was in the air. Feeling the plane slowing down, she closed her eyes and waited for the plane to touch the ground.

Once out of the plane she made quick use of the nearest trash can and spilled the contents of her small lunch on the plane into it. Wiping her mouth she made a face at the taste left over in her mouth 'why does it taste like corn, I didn't even have corn'.

Walking over to where her bags where coming down the line she grabbed them and hefted them up onto her shoulders and walked off to get some mouth wash will waiting on Charlie.

She didn't have to wait long, sitting there in one of the hard plastic chairs she saw her dad coming a mile away. He was wearing his police uniform and had a big smile on his face as he was waving at her. "Bella, man kid you got big on me, come here and give your old man a hug".

Bella dropped her bags and went to give her dad a hug "Its good to see you too Dad, its been a while hasn't it, and I am not that big you old goat". Charlie just laughed and went to help her with her bags.

After having gotten home Bella made shot work of putting all her stuff up in her room, looking around she smiled. Charlie had gotten her a new desk and some other things to go into the room. Sitting down on the bed she feel back on to it and stretched her arms and legs out a bit until she felt them pop and sighed.

Laying on the bed she felt a cool breeze come in through her open window, she was laying there for a good while, she almost feel asleep. When Charlie's booming voice brought her back "Hey Bells come on dinners on the table."

Bella sat up and ran a hand through her hair and rubbed her eyes before standing and padding out of the room and down the stair. Looking at the pizza boxes sitting on the table she sighed "Dad, you do know we can't eat out every night right, pizza is okay for tonight but tomorrow i am going shopping and get us some real food in this house okay"

Charlie chuckled "Yeah, I hear ya kid"

Bella smiled and grabbed a slice and sat down with her dad and spent the time in comfortable silence. After a few minutes Charlie brought up some news "I have already got all you stuff for school set up, you start tomorrow" Bella smiled and nodded "Thanks I was going to ask about that, but seems you thought ahead and did it for me".

Charlie nodded and smiled "also i have something for you" reaching into his pockets he pulled out a set of keys. Sliding them across the table he said "Ones for the door to the house, the other is to your surprise outside."

Bella looked at the keys before grinning getting up she ran out the door and looked outside. Seeing the tarp outside covering something up beside Charlie's police cruiser she ran over to it and pulled it off.

Smiling when she saw the old red pickup truck she ran her hands over the the old rusted truck before turning to see her dad standing beside her she said "I love it dad"

Later that night as Bella climb into the bed she wonder if the next few days would be as good as this one.

A raven flapped its wings gently as it set down on a branch on an old pine tree. Not truly an uncommon site in Washington, after all the common raven was found all across the state. But this one was different; it no longer had a right eye. It had been torn out long ago, and now there was only rough scar tissue over the socket. A flash of lightning spurred him into action and caused him to take flight from his perch on the branch and shoot out across the brilliantly lit night sky.


It wove in and out of the trees with all its avian grace until it came upon a lit window. It slowed and landed on the edge of the window, using the eve of the house as shelter from the rain it looked in upon its new mistress.

Bella lay in bed listening to the storm. You just don’t have this kind of rain in Arizona. As much as she loved Phoenix she couldn’t help but miss the rain, but not just the rain. The storms; even as a child she loved listening to the rolling booms of thunder and the bright flashes as lighting flashed across the sky.

The storm woke her over an hour ago, but she found it too interesting to fall back asleep. She lay there in bed; the bedside light cast long shadows across the room, giving Bella more than enough light to read by. But her book sat untouched as she looked out her window.

A bird had sat there for quite some time; she felt sorry for it, forced outside as the rain battered against her window. Part of her wanted to get up from her bed and open the window, allowing him sanctuary in her room.

Of course she didn’t let the bird in, most of her thought the idea foolish; surely he’d survived many other storms far worse than this with no help. Surely her window was what he deemed the best place to be, and by morning he’d be gone.

Looking at her alarm clock, she turned off her light. Her first day of school was only six hours away and she wanted to get some more sleep before then.

'Ugh, why must school start so early in the morning?' Bella thought. As she got ready for school, she admired the dew on the grass from last night's storm. Unreasonbly, she began to think about the raven from last night. It wasn't on her windowsill this morning; what if it had been hurt in the storm? She tried to shrug those thoughts away; after all, it was only an animal, right? Animal or no, she couldn't stop of hint of doubt in her mind.

AS she walked out to her truck, she glanced at her window once more. Her gaze traveled from the window to the tree right next to it, and was startled and relieved, as well as feeling a little foolish, to see that the raven had come back and that all her thoughts were for naught. Then she shook herself, and wondered when she had become so concerned over a simple bird. After she started her truck, she looked up to see the same exact raven on her truck, and damn, it was huge! She screamed and ducked. After a short while of nothing, she peeked over the steering whell, only to stare right into the ravens eye. As she froze, the raven cocked it's head back and forth, as if examining her. Absently, Bella noted that the raven was missing an eye; but instead of frightening her further, it only served to comfort her. As the raven flew away, she wondered about her feeling of comfort. Maybe, she thoought, just maybe, the raven is more than it seems? She shivered.

When she got to school, she promptly forgot all superstitious thoughts in favor of finding her way to the office.

"Hey! I haven't seen you around. Are you the new student?" A boy came up to her; he was about her height, maybe a bit taller, with blonde hair and blue eyes, giving him a cute look that probably got him all the girls, Bella thought. Too bad it wouldn't work on her.

"Yeah, that's me. Hi, I'm Isabella Leofwine. Call me Bella." And then she waited for the invetiable question.

"Wow, that's, uh, a very... Nice! A very nice name. Can I ask why...?" Bella rolled her eyes. She had a feeling that she would become very tired of this question, very soon.

"My mom says that she was not high on painkillers when she named me, but I personally doubt that. She was apparently in Iceland when I was born, since she likes to travel, and she was in France right before that. She decided that they were the two most wonderful places in the world, and consequently named me after them. Isabella is French, Leofwine is Icelandic, which is indeed a language. Don't believe me? Google it."

He sat there stunned. Bella sighed.

"Can you point me to the main office?" Bella asked. The boy pointed with is arm, still unable to form an answer. Bella sighed yet agian, and then went in the direction he pointed. The boy was still back there, no doubt processing all the information she had given him. Too late, she realized that she didn't hear his name, not that she cared.

Upon finally finding her classes after her brief moment in the main office, walking into the room she saw that she was the last to join the classes as the bell finally ran right after she walked through the door.

Getting many stares as she walked over to the teacher, she handed him her papers before she went to take her set near the back beside some girl wearing glasses. She didn't talk much through out the class but as she was about to leave the girl with the glasses and some Asian boy walked over to her.

"Hi your the new girl right" said the Asian boy "My Names Eric its nice to meet you" the girl standing beside him nodded "Yes its very nice to meet you too my name is Angela" the girl held out her hand for a shake.

Bella nodded to both and shook Angela's hand "My Name is Isabella but i prefer Bella" the three of them had the next class and lunch together and spent the entire time talk and getting to know one another. As Bella was heading to her next class she began to have a weird feeling in her gut.

Rubbing her tummy a little she walked into the class and froze when she meet sparkling golden eyes, the pixie like girl was beautiful. Short black hair going off in every direction, pale skin and the golden eyes. She looked like a little china doll all dressed up and just setting their with that smile on her lips.

She was gorgeous, Bella shook her head and blushed. Giving the teacher her slip she moved to the only set left. Turns out it was right beside of the little china doll girl. Bella felt her heart tipple timing it inside her chest and swore everyone could hear it.

Setting down she was surprised when a few minutes later the girl spoke. She had the most beautiful voice sound of tinkling bells. "Hi I am Alice Cullen, its nice to meet you" Bella looked at the girl and nodded "Nice to meet you too, I am Isabella Leofwine, but I prefer Bella"

'Things are looking up' thought Bella as the girl smiled 'Forks might not be so bad after all.'
