This is a question that's been rattling around in my head for quite a while. I'm doing research or anything, just curious as to where all of you draw your inspiration.

Stephenie Meyer. She's really a role model, to me. Every time I write something, I try to emulate her depth and understanding of the characters and story - really connect with them the way she obviously does. It's beautiful.
I'm sorry, I'm a bit of a bitch.
Serious answer: It changes. Sometimes I'll be set off by a smell, or a scene witnessed when on the bus, or an interaction I have with someone. Or sometimes I'll just be thinking super deeply about something (as I'm wont to do, obviously. Don't doubt it) and start writing a super deep piece with super deep meanings. Well, maybe not super deep. But just general contemplation will do it for me, haha.

It varies from day to day. Sometimes movies, sometimes dreams, sometimes something I see when I'm walking or just chilling in the library.

My brain makes it up for me. I don't have to do anything. I'll just be sitting there and *ping!* it shoots a scene into my head and if I like it, I start to write and add onto it.

It depends. Sometimes I draw from an external source, like things I see in movies or TV shows, like specific characters and the way they are. I draw from them because I like them and I want to add whatever it is that I like to that character. Takes James for example, the way I characterized him came from Heath Ledger's interpretation of The Joker. I wanted to emulate that in him because I enjoyed that character, so that's what I did.
Other times it just comes to me and I go with it. I get random ideas at random times, but most of the time I think "ooh, I really like that" so I want to use it and I try to use it if I'm able to, or I just plan to use it for later on. A lot of what I did for my first story came to me at random, in fact. There were some scenes that I planned out differently initially, but when it came time to write them I got new ideas that I liked better, so I went with them.
It all depends on the situation, I suppose.
I will say that I got a lot of inspiration from stories I read. A few in particular inspired me for some of the things I used in Blood Solstice, so I have to thank those writers for creating stories that acted as catalysts for my eventual story. And I have to say that what Meyer didn't do inspired me. She did such a horrid job on a lot of it that I felt inspired to do what I could to do better than her in my writing.

Oh, Hollowgo inspired me. He helps me come up with plots and sub-plots. Props to him.

I ask because recently I started drawing heavily on a song, and then that led me to research the song and draw even more heavily on the basis of the song. It's the first time that I've really been inspired from an exterior locus.

Oh? Well, most of the time mine is internal, i.e. dreams, but I did draw inspiration from Mean Girls for Bella's first day at school.

Well, the song just happens to be almost exactly about sirens, based on the the myth of Cygnos.

I definitely get A LOT of my inspiration from music. It is my greatest muse. Well other than the actual Muses of course. (: I draw a lot from real life as well, just whatever is going on at school, with my friends, from movies, or occurrences in history. I like tying things from real life timelines into my story. Dreams definitely add to my story as well.

Ooh, historical moments are good, too. I often wonder what the people of the time would think about something we view so coldly and casually now. It's fascinating.
(And, also, hi first time poster! I like your name ;D)
