This has been on my mind lately, and I figured I might as well ask sooner or later. Do you think it's necessary to have a beta-reader? I was wondering because I haven't had a beta before, and I'm not sure if that's okay.
I tried setting something up before, but I never went through with it, and now I'm still beta-less.
Thoughts?

I think when you first start out as a writer, you don't need one, but as you get more reviewers and whatnot it becomes more practical to get a Beta.
I could Beta for you, if you want. Hollowgo is my reference. I Beta for him.

I think that'd be great. I guess I just never saw what was so great about having a beta, since it seemed to me like just 'that person who reads your updates before everyone else'. Guess I just never really got it.

Well they also help with typo's you miss or if you have an error in continuity they can spot that...etc etc.

What if you both miss an error and then your readers notice it?

Well that happens, but it's less so.

It's always better to have an extra eye trying to spot errors.

I'll get a beta soon then. I know how much it annoys me to read stories with too many errors.

Betas aren't a necessity unless writing isn't your strong suit. Even then they're not required. If you're fluent with the technicalities of English, your writing shouldn't be all that bad to begin with. At least, nothing spell or grammar check won't find for you. Sometimes you do miss things but if you're careful, they're usually pretty needless. It is just fanfiction after all. Not like it's getting published.

*Sigh* I suppose you're right. But now, I'm getting all confused and stuff. I need to sleep to put my mind at rest. It's 22:32 right now anyway. Later.

What I need a beta for, more than anything, is continuity. I'm beginning to realized just how bad I am if I don't consistently re read things. English and grammar I understand, and where a story to go, but I realized at one point in one thing I wrote that about 1/2 way through a characters eyes changed colors from green to brown lol.

Oh, I hate when that happens in stories. Maybe you're right...*sigh*
