Man I post a lot. Okay here's the deal. My main story has rvealed enough for the heroine (a different Bella than you know, this one is smart and strong) to unravel the mystery in two or three chapters. My characters have grown enough I'm a bit reluctant to do so. What to do? Promise a sequel and finish it? It was always meant to be a novella. Or just expand it. I'm a bit lost.

Well you can either add a new element. Have her solve the mystery but that can lead to a bigger one. That essentially promises a sequel to fulfill that promise.
Sometimes the need for a sequel just arise regardless of what we meant them to be.

Not an angel, a knight astride a shining white steed in polished armor There's a difference.
