That's my theory at least. I have no evidence to back that up nor do I know how to get that evidence.
I've done an experiment where you have people pair up 1/3 FF 1/3 MM and 1/3 MF and have them go toe to toe and stare into the other's eyes. 90% of the males in the MM group reported feeling angrier and threatened. Which was about 50% points higher than the other two groups.

Woah. If I were Frued I'd say something about the angry feelings but.. Haha, joking.
Well, I do notice how girls tend to check out other girls than guys. At the mall, more often than not, a girl friend would comment on how horrible another girl is dressing than about a hot guy.

Mhmm, my mom and dad both told me many a time growing up that "Women dress for other women" to which my dad would add "we just get to enjoy it."
My dad's insane ;D

Hahah great line.
Enj, So do think it's reasonable to say that societal stigmas around what is considered "manly" combined with the natural competitiveness of men just makes it harder to say "hey that guy is good looking"?

I am so late in this game, but it's so interesting. May I join? In terms of gayness, I'm a firm believer in the Kinsey scale, which states that everyone is gay, it just depends on a level of one to six how gay you are. It's those numbers that allow straight women to think other women are attractive and men can stand to pee next to each other, if that makes sense. I also think testosterone plays a part. Girls are competetive, but not for dominant reasons. I think it's more personal gratification as opposed to becoming leader of the pack if that makes sense. I'm still thinking on that one. Neroh, so sorry to hear about your situation. My advice, although you didn't ask for it, is not to worry about it until someone comes along that you want to openly be with. Don't fight the fight if there's nothing worth fighting for, you know? Great topics, guys.

Joce, You're so right! Girls are competitive but not in the dominant way. I am also a believe in the scale and I think more people are gayer than they realize. Sometimes, I know this from experience, we tend to pass gay-slanted thoughts as 'friendliness'. Yknow? My situation can be worse, so I'm not agonizing it over much. Glad to be a girl so I can pass the flirtiness as being friendly infront of my parents. Thanks for the worry and care. So... I've been meaning to ask.. From one to six, how gay are you Joce? If you don't mind answering of course.

Pretty sure after the 12th time, it's more than joking, ya know? Ick.

I believe we're getting into a thrust-parry situation. Those are always fun.
