Okay, so I figured that in my story, Werewolves are superior to the shifters. Only problem is, my werewolves need something about them that can make them kick a shifter's butt.
The werewolves in my story turn into wolves the size of...well...wolves, whereas we know that the shifters turn into horse-sized wolves.
My question is this; what should werewolves be able to do in wolf form that gives them an advantage over the shifters. I'm asking this because I'm planning a scene between Bella and Jacob and she totally kicks his furry ass, but I need to know what she does exactly.
Suggestions?

They could be faster and more agile because of their smaller structure
think Alice, she could take on Emmett, because he focuses on his size and strength where as Alice is smaller and more graceful

I figured they'd more agile and faster (Bella's bloodline is actually the fastest of the four bloodlines), but I meant something else they've learned to do?

hmm, perhaps you should look up the way different animals fight You could see the differences in each and see if you can't try an apply that to their wolf forms vs the shifters wolf forms

Having speed and agility may be useful, but I think that they'd need more to be able to beat wolves that are twice their size, heal super fast, are strong enough to tear vampires apart and communicate telepathically with their packmates.
Lemon was right in suggesting animal fight vids (though there aren't many, I've looked).
They would need benefits that would help boast that superiority. Like stronger jaws that can crush solid rock and tear into metal (they could control that, of course), more durable bodies/bone structures so that they can take a lot more damage (think stronger skin) than the shapeshifters can take. If you combine those things, the werewolves are already more lethal than the shapeshifters are. They can dodge, they can take attacks and when they bite, it HURTS.

Well, the werewolves in my story heal super fast, can communicate with one another, can tear apart vampires anyway.
So you're saying along with super healing, they are also more durable in wolf form? Like the skin under the fur is tougher? And their jaws are powerful?
Interesting. I could easily see Bella breaking one of Jake's legs when she fights him.

Yeah, well...I forgot.
But yes. That in a nutshell.

I think I'll do that, then. Poor Jake is going to have his ass handed to him by a girl in a wolf form have his size. It's going to be awesome.
Thanks for the help, HG and lemon.

You could always do more superpower based things too. Supersonic howls, extending claws, razor-sharp fur, communicating with other animals, increasing the size of their jaws, etc.

Well, I don't think I want to go that far...they aren't vampires. Haha.

Werewolf eye lasers! Werewolf animal fusion!
Oh.
Well, fine. I may use that, though. *plots*

I think it'd be pretty hard to make them superior without them coming across as campy, because strength and size is a major factor. You can't give them super-powers or anything, or lasers for eyes, or the ability to perform a Vulcan Death Grip in mid-tangle. So it has to solely be a focus on what they have over their larger counterparts, which is speed and agility.
Unfortunately, though, being quick is less impressive than brute strength, so I'm not sure how well she'll be able to kick his ass.
