The Oscars are coming up, and so are the BAFTAs (13th Feb for any Americans out there )... so anyone got any predictions or preferences? I would LOVE to see Black Swan get Best Picture, but I think The Social Network will. Would also like to see Portman get Leading Actress (surely she will), and Colin Firth Leading Actor (British solidarity you see). Thoughts?

If Portman doesn't get Best Actress, I'll be very surprised. Same with Colin Firth. Going to see King's Speech today, actually. But I can make that call without seeing it

I have a feeling The King's Speech will win best pic, I think there's going to be a large backlash against The Social Network...and rightly so.

Dude, I really enjoyed Social Network. Totally think it deserves best Screenplay, if nothing else.

Thank God, I thought I was the only one. I mean granted the basic premise doesn't make you jump and down with excitement. I truly enjoyed the Social Network.

I liked the Social Network too, for what it's worth.

Hey, plural Meg, good taste! I thought it was very well-written. I'm not really made for dramas, 'cause I just tend to get to a 'do I give a shit?' point, but I wasn't bored in the slightest.
And just saw King's Speech. Aw, Colin Firth and Helena and Geoff made me cry. Happily, but even so.

I have been slacking on my responsibilities. I haven't seen a movie in theaters in ages. I am a terrible American haha.

The last movie in theaters that I saw was Little Fockers. Funny stuff.

I like Social Network too, but there are better films up for Best Picture IMHO. What is strange is that it's up for Best Picture, but not Best Director, was Fincher snubbed!? Is anyone from the UK here? BAFTAs are televised next Sunday at 9pm on BBC1 if so!

That tells me that it won't win. You can count on your hands the number of times that a film won Best Picture and not Best Director. Last time was 03 I think, when Ang Lee won for Brokeback Mountain but Crash won Best Picture.

Yes indeed, think that will be the case. I'm very excited for the Oscars this year, I've actually booked the day off work so I can sit up and watch it in the middle of the night. *geek*

I think King's Speech will get it as well. The Oscars already sort of snubbed Social Network with the number of nominations it gr in comparison. I haven't seen it but from what I'm told, no matter how good it was, the other films were better. There was a lot of backlash every time it won and King's Speech won the SAGs which let's you know what Hollywood thinks. I just hope the Oscars is listening like they seem to be. Portman's a solid won and I wish Steinfeld would win best supporting but I thInk it's going to go to Melissa Leo. Grudges me to say that Bale deserves an Oscar too. I despise that man
